Transportation and Warehouse Manager Norway

Department: Supply Chain

Reports to: Head of logistics N&B (not located in Norway) 

Location: Fredrikstad, Askim or Oslo office

 

Purpose: This role is responsible for leading, managing, and optimizing transportation and warehousing operations in Norway. 50% of the role will focus on supporting the Fredrikstad site, which is part of the Gypsum business, ensuring efficient daily logistics operations and warehouse management. The remaining 50% will be dedicated to overseeing and improving Norwegian logistics operations, including the Insulation and Mortars businesses, driving strategic initiatives, cost efficiencies, and service improvements across the network. The role will ensure alignment with company objectives, continuous improvement, and operational excellence in all logistics functions.

The role plays a critical part in ensuring customer satisfaction, reducing environmental impact through optimized logistics, and contributing to the company’s financial performance through cost-effective operations.

The person will also be part of the regional logistics leadership team contributing to the cluster level logistics strategy and roadmap. The person will be responsible implementing the defined strategy and roadmap in Norway. The candidate must have skills to collaborate across the cultures in the region and see the bigger picture.

Please note that a presence at the factory in Fredrikstad will be needed for 2-3 days per week in the beginning, scaling down to 1 day per week over time.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement logistics and warehousing strategies to optimize storage, distribution, and delivery.
  • Oversee warehouse distribution network design, evaluating and determining warehouse needs.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop logistics and warehousing teams across Norway.
  • Support of logistics staff in Fredrikstad, providing guidance and oversight.

Warehouse Optimization:

  • Lead projects to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.
  • Implement best practices in inventory control, space utilization, and safety.

System Implementation:

  • Oversee SAP S/4HANA implementation for logistics and warehousing (2026 and beyond)
  • Any other system implementations in logistics

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure seamless product flows through the supply chain.
  • Monitor and improve key KPIs like order accuracy and on-time delivery.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Enhance transport and warehousing processes and tools.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate plans, challenges, and performance metrics to senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as the primary contact for logistics and warehousing in Norway.

Change Management

  • Lead change initiatives related to logistics transformation, including digitalization, process redesign, and organizational restructuring.
  • Identify and manage resistance to change through proactive communication, training, and engagement strategies.
  • Act as a change ambassador, fostering a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in transport and warehousing management, with at least 7 years in a managerial role.
  • Must possess strong English and Norwegian writing and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and influence without authority.
  • Strong expertise in SAP or SAP S/4HANA and/or other advanced transport and warehousing management and optimization systems.
  • Good understanding of EDI/API and other key digitalization tools in logistics.
  • Good understanding of thermo and dangerous goods (ADR) regulations in Norway.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing teams and driving transport and warehousing excellence.
  • Proven change management experience. Related training is a plus.
  • Excellent data, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
